Logos and slogans

January 26th, 2006

That quick little glance at a logo, or that catchy slogan, leaves you the consumer with an instant full knowledge of a company’s mission, goals, and philosophy. Except that it hardly ever does. A collection of links of logos and slogans, some genuinely interesting, some genuinely funny.

In the law

A legal primer on what constitutes a parody. Rule #1: “A parody must be clever.”

A lawsuit concerning an infringing dog perfume slogan: - “Strong enough for a man, but made for a chihuahua.”

Slogans

My favorite slogan link is Church Sign Generator, which I use to test out slogans and mottos, because it limits the length of the slogan and gives you the impression of driving by quickly, so you can get an idea of whether your slogan is “sticky” or not.

God Doesn't Need a Search Engine

Florida is in a lather about a new marijuana-flavored candy, which has spawned unofficial slogans from its fans: “Tell a friend, not a cop,” and “Every lick is like taking a hit.”

As many know first-hand, corporate slogans and project codenames can be demoralizing. Featuring “Project Jalapeno”.

Cartoon of a meeting in which Bill G. and the Microsoft team try to outdo Google’s slogan“Do No Evil”. [Breaking news -- recently amended to "Do No Evil (Except in China)" - Editor]

Parodies of state slogans. “Florida — where fun goes to die.”

A new marketing phrase every six seconds.

Logos

From Holland, two very useful collections: a large collection of logos, with year, designer, and colors used, and official corporate brand and design web pages

From Russia, a huge downloadable collection of corporate logos, with previews and larger-file downloads.

Tremendous (and large) real logos in imaginary contexts, with a little help from Photoshop. Thought-provoking and funny, worth a look.

Parodies of the Enron logo.

Collection of parodies of well-known logos. “Infringing stuff”.

A CD for sale with 15,000 corporate logos in EPS format. But missing, one suspects, the usage guidelines from the companies…

Update: How could I forget the wonderful create-a-logo-in-ten-minutes eNormicom from 37 Signals?
