Terrific new tools from DomainsBot

November 29th, 2005

Full disclosure - I’m Chairman of the Board of Directors of DomainsBot — but I’m there because their stuff is so COOL!

DomainsBot under an hour ago unwrapped a new section of their site called DomainsBot Labs, which showcases a few of the very interesting things these Roman geniuses are up to.

Sneak peek (but watch this space for more in-depth stuff over the next few hours/days):
DomainsBot Labs WordTrends

This is a screenshot from WordTrends, one their five new tools (see more below) which shows how many domain names containing the words “Katrina” and “Rita” and “Hurricane” and “Relief” have been in the zones of the major gTLDs since April 2005. Go put it any one word, or compare several. Here’s what “iPod” looks like.

Quick Links (I’ll talk about each one of these separately in subsequent posts):

  • WordTrends — shows the popularity of keywords within domain names over time. Look at one word or compare several.
  • DomainStats — Two in-depth studies that look at how length, number of keywords, and parts of speech affect value in the secondary domain name market, with surprising results.
  • SearchCloud — An easy-to-use dynamic visual cloud that suggests new available domain names based on relations between keywords in existing domain names. Hard to explain, easy to use, addictive.
  • Split-It — Is the phrase “domainsnow” really “domains now” or “domain snow” or “do mains now”? Split-It shows you all the possibilities and rates the results.
  • Shadow — If you want to help DomainsBot produce more good stuff, download Shadow and it will use your idle time to crunch data. There’s no spying, snooping, or any of that, but if you’re security-obsessed this probably isn’t the application for you. I have it running on my laptop, though.

I’m going off now to WordTrends to see how “love” and “sex” compare. More later…

  2. [...] Now that’s fascinating. So much of the writing about the power of the blogosphere has been blah blah anecdotal, or just dead wrong. I’ve been trying to harness some of the very interesting social science research on human perception and behavior, as in my efforts with the DomainsBot Labs, and it’s encouraging to see others make these efforts as well.
